MIL Launches U.S. Navy Modeling and Simulation Team
As its defense unit capabilities expand, organization hires Dr. Ivar Oswalt, M&S expert.
BOWIE, Md.—June 26, 2019—The MIL Corporation (MIL) is pleased to introduce a new service line dedicated to Navy Modeling and Simulation (M&S). To support this effort, the organization has named Dr. Ivar Oswalt as a senior modeling and simulation analyst.
MIL’s expansion into M&S capabilities will allow its teams to provide services to the Navy by applying M&S tools to support acquisition activities throughout a program’s lifecycle. As a player in this domain, MIL will work to provide M&S-based analysis of alternatives, interoperability and supportability studies, T&E planning and augmentation, as well as operational performance assessment.
Oswalt, who has over 20 years of experience in M&S, has worked to support the Navy’s M&S Office since its founding as well as several other DoD and corporate clients. As a member of the MIL Defense Business Unit, he will enable its team to expand M&S software development and employment capabilities. Additionally, he will provide M&S and Live Constructive and Virtual (LVC) planning and analysis; requirements characterization; metrics definition and assessment; as well as policy and standards development.
“We are thrilled to bring Ivar on board,” said MIL Defense Unit COO Ed Greer. “With his skills as a simulation projects division manager and senior M&S subject manager expert, he will undoubtedly take our new line of service to great heights. The work we are doing is extremely important to aid our warfighters with safe and sound environments and tools while honoring the great service they provide to our country.”
Oswalt is an accomplished author in the M&S arena. Most recently, he and his co-author received the best paper award at MODSIM World Conference 2019 for their submission, “Simulation Based Training’s Incorporation of Machine Learning.” As a result, they will be presenting at a forum titled, “The Best from Around the Globe” at the Interservice/ Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Dec. 2019. Oswalt is also a recipient of the Hirsch Prize from the Acquisition Research Journal, and is a contributor to the 2017 textbook, “The Modeling and Simulation Profession” by John Wiley & Sons.
Oswalt earned his Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (CMSP) qualification in 2019 and received a PhD in Political Science from the Claremont Graduate School.
