Top Workplaces Awards Programs
MIL has won the Top Workplaces honor by The Washington Post for seven consecutive years. The top companies were selected based on survey responses on topics ranging from employee development to innovation. In 2023, MIL ranked fifth in the large businesses category across multiple industries. Selection is based solely on employee feedback gathered through an anonymous third-party survey administered by research partner Energage, LLC, which measured several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.
MIL has won the Top Workplaces honor for South Carolina five times since 2017. This year, MIL ranked seventh for mid-sized companies. This award is given by Greenville Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly, and Charleston Business Magazine. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered dministered by research partner Energage, LLC.
Top Workplaces USA award, issued by Energage, is a purpose-driven organization that develops solutions to build and brand Top Workplaces. This year, MIL ranked #41 in its business category (500-999 employees). Top Workplaces USA surveys more than 20 million employees in over 50 markets for the regional Top Workplaces awards. Top Workplaces USA offers national recognition for large organizations, those with more than 150 employees, and those that may have operations in multiple markets. Winners of the Top Workplaces USA list are chosen based solely on employee feedback gathered through an employee engagement survey, issued by Energage.

Great Place to Work® is the global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. Through proprietary assessment tools, advisory services, and certification programs, including Best Workplaces lists and workplace reviews, Great Place to Work® provides the benchmarks, framework, and expertise needed to create, sustain, and recognize outstanding workplace cultures.
Great Place to Work® honored MIL as one of the Best Workplaces in Consulting & Professional Services™ in the Small and Medium Business category for four consecutive years. The Best Workplaces in Consulting & Professional Services award is based on analysis of survey responses from over 100,000 employees from Great Place to Work-Certified™ companies in the consulting and professional services industry. Survey responses reflect a comprehensive picture of the workplace experience. Honorees were selected based on their ability to offer positive outcomes for employees regardless of job role, race, gender, sexual orientation, work status, or other demographic identifier.
The Best Workplaces for Millennials award is based on analysis of survey responses from more than 5.3 million current employees. MIL ranked #62 in this category.
The ranking is based on confidential survey feedback representing more than 280,000 employees working at small- and medium-sized businesses in the United States. Great Place to Work evaluated more than 60 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included the extent to which employees trust leaders, the respect with which people are treated, the fairness of workplace decisions, and how much camaraderie there is among the team. Rankings are based on employees’ feedback and reward companies that best include all employees, no matter who they are or what they do for the organization. MIL placed 75/100 on the list 2020 list and 50/100 on the 2021 list.
Great Place to Work and FORTUNE honored MIL as one of the 2018 Best Workplaces for Diversity. The Best Workplaces for Diversity rankings not only stand out for diverse organization and management team data, but for how employees report they are treated in the workplace. Out of 100 organizations selected for the list, MIL took the 86th slot. To determine the list, Great Place to Work analyzed and compared the experiences of women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, employees who are Boomers or older, and people who have disabilities within the organization. The 60 question, anonymous survey administered to all participating organizations reflects day-to-day workplace treatment, representing more than 4.4 million employees’ work lives.
Employer Support of the National Guard (ESGR) Awards
MIL received the 2022 Maryland Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Freedom Award in the large business category. The prestigious award given by ESGR, a staff group with Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, is the highest recognition presented by the Department of Defense (DoD) to employers who provide the most outstanding support for National Guard and Reserve members.
MIL received the Maryland Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Above and Beyond in 2018. The prestigious award given by ESGR, a staff group with Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, recognizes employers who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) to provide exceptional benefits to its National Guard and Reserve employees.
Family Business Honoree Award, SmartCEO: 2017
