MIL CARES (Celebrates, Acknowledges, Responds, Energizes, and Strengthens) is tasked with organizing MIL involvement in community service efforts throughout the year. We believe in servicing the communities in which we live and work. Some examples include food drives, coat drives, Toys for Tots, collecting funds for disaster relief efforts, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, or supporting our soldiers and Veterans. Some of our activities include:
The Annual Reindeer Run’s goal is to raise funds for research and education at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Hospital and the Charitable Society of Charleston. Throughout the history of the event, the Charitable Society of Charleston (CSC) has donated over $370,000 to MUSC.
MIL is an Exclusive Sponsor of this event. This event is not only a jolly good time for the more than large turnout of Charleston, S.C. MIL team runners, walkers, and other volunteers but also an incredible opportunity for MIL to present its philanthropic side to our community.
MIL tries to make the holidays a little brighter for all by participating in various donations throughout the season.
In the past, MIL has supported clothing, food, and gift drives such as preparing food at the DC Central Kitchen, back-to-school drives, holiday food drives, donating to the Lexington Park Elementary School Cherish the Children event, H.O.P.E. (Helpers Overcoming Problems Effectively) organization, and Toys for Tots.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) is the leading resource for accurate, timely and credible information about Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CFF is a nonprofit donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking CF from every angle. They focus on supporting the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure. To help with the fight, MIL has participated as a corporate sponsor for The Great Strides Walk in Lexington Park, Md.
Charleston Regional Center-Combined Federal Campaign Charity Golf Tournament
The Charleston Regional Center–Combined Federal Campaign Charity Golf Tournament is put on in Charleston, S.C. to benefit several local Charleston children’s charities. MIL has participated as the title sponsor for the event, whose proceeds went to Camp Happy Days, Pattison’s Academy, and Ronald McDonald Charities.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every October, the Bowie Service Center (BSC) unites to raise money for breast cancer awareness. As a team, we show our support by fundraising via MIL CARES shirts and raffle drawings for the cause. Raising over $500 a year, the BSC group donates all proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Charleston, S.C. Dragon Boat Festival
Since 2003, Dragon Boat Charleston has been paddling the waters of the Ashley River with the mission to promote physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their community through dragon boating. The organization strives to encourage healthy healing and healthy lifestyles through goal oriented exercise, good nutrition, education and fellowship, and to support the beneficial effects of physical activity in survivorship through research. For years, MIL has supported the cause by forming a team- The MIL Shaggin’ Dragons — raising money and participating in the fun of racing to support the cause!
