MIL CARES (Celebrates, Acknowledges, Responds, Energizes, and Strengthens) is tasked with organizing MIL involvement in community service efforts throughout the year. We believe in servicing the communities in which we live and work. Some examples include food drives, coat drives, Toys for Tots, collecting funds for disaster relief efforts, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, or supporting our soldiers and Veterans.
The Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation
The Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the Washington Capitals, Mystics, and Wizards. The three teams align their efforts, allowing them to have the greatest impact in the community. MSE Foundation is committed to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and focuses on the following five tenants: Education and Scholarship, Hunger and Homelessness, Military and Veterans’ Affairs, Pediatric Health and Fitness, Youth Basketball and Hockey.
The MSE Foundation pledges to continue investing their time and resources and MIL is proud to support these initiatives through our sponsorship of marquee fundraisers, such as the Capitals Casino Night at MGM National Harbor. This event is MSE’s largest fundraiser and has raised over $1M dollars for charities. The MSE Foundation supports a number of charities and non-profit organizations, a few are listed below.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every October, the Bowie Service Center (BSC) unites to raise money for breast cancer awareness. As a team, we show our support by fundraising via MIL CARES shirts and raffle drawings for the cause. Raising over $500 a year, the BSC group donates all proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
MIL tries to make the holidays a little brighter for all by participating in various donations throughout the season.
In the past, MIL has supported clothing, food, and gift drives such as preparing food at the DC Central Kitchen, back-to-school drives, holiday food drives, donating to the Lexington Park Elementary School Cherish the Children event, H.O.P.E. (Helpers Overcoming Problems Effectively) organization, and Toys for Tots.
We are proud to support our communities and have participated with the following organizations to raise funds and awareness to their causes:
- Reindeer Run, Charleston, SC: Benefiting research and education at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Hospital and the Charitable Society of Charleston.
- The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Events supporting national and local chapters in Lexington Park, Md., and Washington, DC.
- Charleston Regional Center-Combined Federal Campaign Charity Golf Tournament: Benefits several local Charleston children’s charities such as Camp Happy Days, Pattison’s Academy, and Ronald McDonald Charities.
- Dragon Boat Festival, Charleston, SC: Proceeds benefiting and promoting physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their communities.
