MIL CARES (Celebrates, Acknowledges, Responds, Energizes, and Strengthens) is tasked with organizing MIL involvement in community service efforts throughout the year. We believe in servicing the communities in which we live and work. Some examples include food drives, coat drives, Toys for Tots, collecting funds for disaster relief efforts, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, or supporting our soldiers and Veterans.
Girls Global Academy
MIL recently became an Inventor Sponsor of the Sisterhood Summit 2022 at DC’s Girls Global Academy, an all-girls public charter high school established to provide girls a “global education that ignites empowerment and develops the confidence to influence change for global benefit.” Founded by two former educators to promote sisterhood, scholarship, service, and safety—the academy’s four pillars—the school seeks to tackle inequities in the education of girls, including the lack of women going into STEM fields. According to the Academy’s website: “Girls’ schools are leading the way in STEM education for women in the world. Graduates of girls’ schools are six times more likely to consider majoring in math, science, and technology and three times more likely to consider engineering compared to girls who attended coed schools.”

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every October, the Bowie Service Center (BSC) unites to raise money for breast cancer awareness. As a team, we show our support by fundraising via MIL CARES shirts and raffle drawings for the cause. Raising over $500 a year, the BSC group donates all proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
MIL tries to make the holidays a little brighter for all by participating in various donations throughout the season.
In the past, MIL has supported clothing, food, and gift drives such as preparing food at the DC Central Kitchen, back-to-school drives, holiday food drives, donating to the Lexington Park Elementary School Cherish the Children event, H.O.P.E. (Helpers Overcoming Problems Effectively) organization, and Toys for Tots.
