BOWIE, MD – THE MIL Corporation (MIL) is pleased to announce its achievement of the Capability Maturity Model Integration® (CMMI) Level Three Maturity rating from Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute (SEI). MIL was awarded this rating on March 1, 2011.
MIL’s Level Three rating exemplifies the company’s ongoing commitment to providing superior solutions to its clients. This is the culmination of nearly four years of continuous effort by the Charleston based system development team.
CMMI® is internationally recognized as a standard that provides a framework and guidance for improving system development and integration processes. It requires organizations to undergo a rigorous review to achieve the Level Three rating. CMMI® was developed by Carnegie Mellon University’s SEI, which is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. It defines practices that organizations implement in order to achieve more efficient processes.
Of the 22 process areas described by CMMI®, MIL now fully meets or exceeds the requirements for 17 categories. Some of the requirements MIL attained include: requirements management; project planning; project process quality and assurance; decision analysis and resolution; and risk management.
In order to attain the CMMI® Level Three rating, organizations are evaluated using the Standard CMMI® Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI). To determine whether requirements for CMMI® Levels have been met, the SCAMPI method requires the review of documents and presentations, as well as interviews with program leaders, quality assurance and configuration management personnel, and organization and project practitioners. SEI then formally recognizes these organizations by publishing the assessment results on their website.
“CMMI has provided our organization with a sophisticated integrated solution for managing our development and maintenance products and services,” said John Degni, an MIL Vice President and Project Management Professional located on the Charleston team that planned, executed, and led the rigorous review process. “Achieving Level Three compliancy was a group effort and allowed our teams to exercise their creative side as they designed and enacted processes within the broad confines of the model. The road to Level Three has been a long and challenging one. It is an ambitious goal for any organization, but ultimately very rewarding. Subscribing to the model can produce tangible results while providing a superior framework for continuous process improvement.”
Formal CMMI® ratings are increasingly prevalent for new contracts, particularly in the Federal sector. The Level Three rating will enable MIL to pursue new business opportunities and proves the high level of commitment MIL offers its clients.
“We are so pleased to have reached the Level 3 rating from CMMI®,” said Jim McIntyre, MIL EVP. “Earning this certification proves that we are continuously working to provide high-quality solutions to our clients and hitting the mark. This ranking shows that we have well-defined processes that are reliable and competitive, something that is invaluable when vying for contracts. This is a milestone for MIL.”
