What were you doing before you decided to join MIL?
Prior to joining MIL I was working in wealth management and investment services. I managed client investment portfolios to achieve objectives based on risk tolerance.
Why did you decide to join MIL?
I was referred to MIL by a friend who thought that the company would be a good fit. I was attracted to the project with the State Department and felt I would work well with the management team I interviewed with. I have always been interested in finance and software systems so working with financial systems support for the State Department seemed like a great opportunity.
What are you working on now?
I currently work in the office of GFSS supporting various interface system processes.
At the moment my focus is concentrated on payment and payroll processing systems.
What is important about your work?
The importance of my work includes the processing and monitoring of financial transaction activity that occurs on a daily basis in relatively large volumes for the State Department government agency.
What are the best aspects about your current job?
The best aspects about my current job is that I really enjoy the team of people I work with and find the work challenging and rewarding.
Why do you enjoy working at MIL?
MIL has been supportive and has a lot of great resources. I feel valued and respected in my position. The social events offered, including the MIL suite at the arena for sporting events, is a great added bonus.
What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on at MIL?
The most challenging project that I have worked on has been the implementation of IPP (Invoice Processing Platform) that has revolutionized payment processing for the State Department. Being a part of a full implementation cycle was new to me. I’m currently involved in the testing and planning phases of our next major implementation of GFACS to update the payroll processing systems.
What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either applying to or beginning a career at MIL?
My advice is to always try to best yourself through continuous improvement and challenges and to take advantage of the many resources that MIL has to offer.
