Why did you decide to join MIL?

I was looking to grow my knowledge of the software development and project management process. I was looking to challenge myself and grow as a professional. Previously, I worked as a property manager for a local real estate company and I knew that property management was not the career I ultimately wanted for myself. Several of my friends had already joined the MIL team, and based on the positive experiences they shared with me, I knew I wanted to pursue a career with MIL.

What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either apply to, or beginning a career at MIL?

Keep a positive attitude and say yes to all challenges. If an opportunity presents itself and you are interested, take it. It may not be there tomorrow. Take advantage of the MILton courses. MIL provides a wealth of knowledge to you for free and you can use the certifications found on MILton to help advance your career.

Do you have a memorable or significant memory or experience with MIL?

Yes! Being a member of the Social Committee for the Charleston location has been very rewarding. I have had the opportunity to help plan the 2018 Winter Awards ceremony which has increased my knowledge and respect of event planning. The Winter Awards is held to show appreciation and celebrate MIL staff and families, and all that MIL staff does for the company. In addition, there is an awards ceremony held to honor those who have been with the company for 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30+ years. It is a great way to honor team milestones and celebrate the entire MIL Charleston team! We have also had the opportunity to organize a clothing drive that benefits two local charities. One for refugees from war torn countries resettling in the low country and the other for women in need.

What are you working on now?

I work in SDM as a Project Management Analyst for multiple systems, including GFMS.

What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on at MIL?

The MIL social committee has been a much larger responsibility than I initially thought. There is no specific project that stands out. The day in and day out consulting piece of my job can be challenging but very rewarding at the same time. It’s a great feeling when a member of the State Department agrees with your interpretation of the PMBOK and CMMI process.
