David St. John

When did you start working at MIL?
November 2014.
Describe your career path.
My professional foundation was established in the U.S. Army, which instilled a disciplined approach to responsibility, teamwork, and high-pressure delivery. Following my military service, I transitioned into Information Technology, advancing through roles that integrated technical execution with leadership and service delivery. Since joining MIL in 2014, I have progressed through various delivery and management positions supporting federal missions, including the International Trade Administration and the Department of the Treasury. My responsibilities have expanded from day-to-day execution to leading diverse teams across cloud architecture, enterprise operations, proactive monitoring, and end-user engineering. Currently, my focus is on ITS sector leadership and business development, ensuring our growth priorities and strategic pursuits are fully aligned with our technical delivery capabilities.
Did you further your education or obtain certifications while employed at MIL?
Yes. I maintain a commitment to continuous learning and technical currency. During my tenure at MIL, I have earned several key industry certifications, including Project Management Professional (PMP); Certified ScrumMaster (CSM); AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate; ITIL v4; Microsoft Azure Fundamentals; Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals; Microsoft 365 Fundamentals; and Google Cloud Generative AI Leader.
In terms of career growth, what is one piece of advice you would offer someone beginning a career at MIL?
Establish yourself as a consistently reliable professional. Focus on executing your assigned commitments and communicating proactively if you encounter obstacles or if timelines shift. Rather than waiting to be told what to do, take the initiative to flag potential issues or offer help when you see a challenge emerging. Building this level of institutional trust through follow-through and active participation is the most effective way to create new opportunities for advancement.
What is one professional highlight that stands out during your career at MIL and why?
A significant highlight was leading modernization initiatives that transitioned legacy environments into cloud-enabled capabilities using AWS and Azure. This was more than a technical migration; it fundamentally enhanced operational reliability and improved the daily support provided to the mission.
