What were you doing before joining MIL?
Prior to joining MIL, I worked as a HR benefits administrator with a small business company that provided security for government contracts such as the White House, Air Force bases, etc. I managed the company benefits to include new hires, terminations, and verification.
Why did you decide to join MIL?
I was referred to MIL in 2014 through a placement agency. When a full-time position became available, I was offered a permanent position as HR Coordinator in 2016.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on closing out our 2020 fiscal year files and setting up the 2021 fiscal year files. I am also currently processing and tracking new hires, terminations, verification of employment, which are the ongoing daily tasks.
What is important about your work?
Everything! Putting MIL first and providing the best customer service I can to everyone in the company in a professional manner and maintaining the flow in HR – keeping things running smoothly as possible is important to me. I have an awesome manager who supports the HR team in all that we do.
What are the best aspects about your current job?
One of the best aspects of my current job is I enjoy what I do in HR and I love meeting new people.
Why do you enjoy working at MIL?
I enjoy the interaction with each and every employee. Every year I’ve been here makes me look forward to the next year, because of the camaraderie and the possibility of more growth. MIL has been good to me.
What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on at MIL?
The most challenging project was creating the electronic personnel file folders (800+) on our share drive for each and every employee within the company. That was a huge task for me to complete while simultaneously taking care of my ongoing duties.
What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either applying to or beginning a career at MIL?
The best piece of advice I can offer is be prepared to work when you come to HR. HR is the hub of the company and there are a lot of moving parts. It helps to be a people person because you will encounter a lot of different people in and out of the company on a daily basis.
If applicable, please share a memorable/significant experience that has occurred during your time with MIL.
The first annual awards ceremony at the MGM was very memorable for me. I got to meet face to face with many of the employees within the DMV area that I communicate with daily. Everyone was dressed up and I truly enjoyed communicating with them. We had the time of our lives!! What a BLAST!!
