System Admin Team Lead

Years with MIL: 9

1. What were you doing before joining MIL?

Before joining MIL, I was a certified trainer, server, and bartender for a popular Italian restaurant. I oversaw scheduling and coordinated training for new service staff while pursuing my degree in information technology.

2. Why did you decide to join MIL?

I decided to join MIL because it seemed like a great fit to start my IT career – and I was right! As a support center analyst, I have had opportunities and exposure to different technologies, adding to my IT knowledge and skills.

3. What are you working on now?

As a new team lead, my first goal is to implement processes that will help the System Administration Team be successful in our mission. I am also working on the design and implementation of a system to allow for management and patching of systems anytime, anywhere.

4. What is important about your work?

The customers are the most important part of our work. It’s our mission to deliver the latest technologies so that the customers can work efficiently remotely, while enjoying the same experience as they have in the office.

5. What are the best aspects about your current job?

One of the best aspects of my current job is working with the many different technologies including Microsoft Intune, Office 365, Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

6. Why do you enjoy working at MIL?

My managers have always been forward thinking in providing me with the necessary training and tools to be successful. Also, MIL offers great opportunities for growth and advancement.

7. What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on at MIL?

The most challenging project that I have worked on at MIL was in 2017 when we migrated all customer iPhones from Blackberry Enterprise Service 12 to Microsoft Intune. It was challenging because it was vital to make sure all polices that were being used on the Blackberry servers were applied to the Intune policies. And, to cut over 2300 users without having them experience any downtime and or losing any emails was a huge test. It was successful in the end and proved that sometimes you may need to double or even triple check your work, but it’s always worth the second or third look to ensure success.

8. What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either applying to or beginning a career at MIL?

Keep yourself open to learning something new every day. Pretend you are a sponge and absorb as much knowledge as you can. Then, with that knowledge, be determined and driven to make changes that will make yourself, your colleagues, and the client better.
