Success at Commerce trade.gov

Trade.gov

Situation: Trade.Gov is the home web site of the International Trade Administration (ITA) of the Department of Commerce. The goals of the website are to consolidate ITA web content for presentation as a single corporate entity; to enhance the website visitor's experience by making information easy to find; to provide additional avenues for specific content to “float to the top”; to help ITA's web communications expand beyond our office stovepipes; and to address trade audiences not served by the Export.gov website.

Action: MIL led the new information architecture and redesign of the Trade.Gov website. Currently, MIL is working on migrating the ASP based Trade.Gov into Stellent wCMS. MIL implemented the Enterprise Wide Stellent (wCMS) solution for ITA. The Stellent solution will provide easy contribution of content by most Office of Public Affairs personnel. MIL is responsible for system architecture, configuration, administration, development and implementation. MIL is currently developing various custom templates MIL implemented the Stellent Collaboration Component to gather the business requirements for Trade.Gov and was responsible for Collaboration server configuration, administration, and implementation. In addition, MIL enabled threaded discussions, alerts and dashboard features of Stellent for better collaboration.

Result: The predicted/expected ROI by migrating the ASP based Trade.Gov to Stellent are an increase in OCIO’s IT staff and user productivity, significant cost savings from increased IT staff efficiency, and lower capital and operating expenses.
