Accounting Support

Situation: The Department of State had a requirement to improve financial performance and reporting. This a multi-year program to consolidate and modernize its financial systems, processes, and operations. State received a qualification on its financial statements in FY 2006 due to a material weakness in the Department’s accounting for CIP.

Action: Supported by MIL, the Department developed detailed procedural guidance and took corrective actions to resolve the weakness and has subsequently received an unqualified audit opinion in its FY 2006 financial statements, Throughout this process and significant other changes over the past 18+ years, MIL has supported State in maintaining its accounting and budgeting operations, consolidating its financial systems and operations, and improving its financial health to achieve clean audit opinions through our strong program management coupled with staff expertise.  

Result: The State Department has received seven years of unqualified opinions, three consecutive years of the AGA CEAR and a PMA “green” rating in Financial Performance.
