Why did you decide to join MIL?

I decided to join MIL because I felt that it would help to broaden my accounting skills base. Prior to joining MIL, I had spent most of my accounting career in corporate environments, with no experience or exposure to governmental accounting.

What is important about your work?

As a business analyst, paying attention to detail and getting to the root cause of issues related to cash variances is vital.  After the root cause has been researched, I make the necessary corrections in the accounting system, which in turn eliminates the need for adjustments on the SF133 (Report on Budget Execution and Budgetary Resources).

What are the best aspects about your current job?

The best aspect about my current job is the people that I have met since being employed by MIL.  Recently, I became a MIL team lead, which has afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals in cross-functional teams throughout the Comptroller Global Financial Service Center (CHS).  MIL’s team at CHS has such a diverse workforce, which has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world — this has truly been a blessing!

Why do you enjoy working at MIL?

I enjoy working for MIL because this company cares about the success of its people.  My manger is constantly encouraging employees to achieve certifications in areas that are most advantageous to the success of the individual.

What is the best piece of career advice you can offer someone in your field who is either applying to or beginning a career at MIL?

Remember that we are consultants who have been tasked with the responsibility of rendering the best service to our client; it is our client’s prerogative to change the scope of the assignment at any time; therefore flexibility is an integral part of being successful in this, or any organization.
